KODAK PTR Film Cleaning Rollers
Kodak PTR’s have been used for decades on professional cleaning and scanning equipment. Spectra now makes these specialized rollers available to the public at reasonable cost with no minimum order requirement!
These rollers function by removing surface contaminants that adhere to the tacky urethane as it comes in contact with the film surface. The rollers may then be cleaned in soapy water and dried before the next use. PTR’s can be cleaned and re-used for thousands of cycles before replacement might be necessary. This can result in a significant cost savings over traditional film cleaning methods involving hazardous chemicals.
The Kodak made PTR’s are unique in that they use a special static resistant urethane rubber compound. The matte finish applied to the urethane surface also improves resistance to static which can attract dust. As we have compared different makes of PTR in our darkrooms, we can confirm that the static inhibitors Kodak applies yield superior anti-static results.
At least two PTRs are needed in the film path – one for the base side and the other for the emulsion side (though four are frequently used). A set of PTRs may be placed in the film paths of projectors, scanners, printers and cleaning machines to remove dust and contaminants from the film surface during operation. PTRs may also also mounted between rewind heads as a low budget, manual cleaning method. The PTRs we offer may be used for 8mm, 16mm or 35mm applications. Available in matte finish 1.5″ and 3″ outer diameter sizes.
